On March 3, the press conference for the fifth session of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) was held at 3:00 p.m. CPPCC spokesperson Guo Weimin briefed domestic and foreign media on the key details of the session and answered questions from reporters.

Guo Weimin stated that in recent years, China has seen a flurry of groundbreaking scientific and technological achievements: "Chang'e" and "Tianwen" missions are boldly venturing into the depths of space, while advancements in quantum information continue to push boundaries. Stem cell research boldly ventures into "uncharted territory" 5G and high-speed railways are lighting up a better quality of life. At the recently held Winter Olympics, we deployed numerous cutting-edge technology products across various areas—including venue construction, event operations, and services—demonstrating China’s remarkable achievements in scientific and technological advancement.

At the same time, we deeply feel that, Currently, China still faces bottlenecks in critical core technology areas, which are hindering the security of our industrial and supply chains, as well as impacting the high-quality development of our economy and society. Therefore, accelerating breakthroughs in these key core technologies has become an urgent priority.

The National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) has fully leveraged its talent and intellectual strengths to actively promote scientific and technological innovation. On one hand, many CPPCC members have dedicated themselves to tackling key challenges and pioneering practical solutions in the field of science and technology. On the other hand, the CPPCC has mobilized its extensive membership to offer insightful advice and contribute meaningfully to the advancement of science and technology.

Guo Weimin stated that last year, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held a series of important meetings, including special standing committee sessions on political consultation, biweekly symposiums for inter-sectoral dialogue, and sector-specific consultation forums. These events featured focused research and deliberations aimed at addressing key issues such as strengthening national strategies and bolstering scientific and technological capabilities. Participants engaged in thorough discussions, pooling diverse insights and ideas to tackle complex challenges. In particular, committee members put forward numerous thoughtful suggestions on how to effectively overcome critical bottlenecks in scientific and technological innovation—ranging from enhancing support for nurturing young talent in science and technology to proactively integrating into the global network of innovation and collaboration. Many of these recommendations have already been taken seriously by relevant authorities, incorporated into policy-making processes, and put into practice, significantly advancing related initiatives.

Guo Weimin also paid tribute to the three-member crew who carried out the Shenzhou-13 manned mission. He said, "Yang Liwei, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, shared with us that this trio has set several Chinese records, including the longest-ever in-orbit duration for Chinese astronauts, and successfully conducted numerous space experiments—truly a milestone achievement."
