On the afternoon of February 4, Sun Yanrong, Deputy Director of the Biotechnology Center under the Ministry of Science and Technology, stated at a press conference held by the National Health Commission: "In the emergency projects launched by the Ministry of Science and Technology, we have stepped up efforts to accelerate drug development. The scientists working on these urgent initiatives are diligently advancing clinical research into the therapeutic potential of convalescent plasma and stem cells for treating severe cases—always guided by scientific principles, robust informed consent processes, and strict ethical standards. We are eagerly anticipating their groundbreaking progress and sincerely hope that their research will soon yield significant, interim results, ultimately offering renewed hope to our critically ill patients."

On February 3, CCTV conducted an exclusive interview with Academician Li Lanjuan, a member of the National Health Commission's high-level expert team. During the interview, Academician Li repeatedly emphasized the potential of stem cell therapy in treating novel coronavirus pneumonia. She noted that the treatment has proven highly effective after being applied in Zhejiang Province, and even influenza patients have already benefited from stem cell therapy. This time, stem cells will also be used in combination to help rescue critically ill COVID-19 patients.
