On July 17, according to a statement from Sun Junhao's agency, Sun Junhao, who was previously injured during the 10th round of the Chinese Super League, suffered a medial collateral ligament injury in his right knee. While the injury isn’t considered too severe, he will now undergo stem cell injection therapy. Sun is expected to return to action as early as the end of August.

Sun Junhao returned to South Korea with an injury. After being examined by the official team doctor of the Korean national squad, he was diagnosed with a medial collateral ligament injury. The Korea Football Association subsequently announced that Sun will withdraw from the national team's training camp and miss the East Asian Cup due to his injury. According to reports from South Korean media, Sun's injury is serious enough to require a recovery period of 6 to 8 weeks, during which he’ll be unable to engage in intense physical activity.

Following this, Sun Jun-ho's agency announced that, after examinations and diagnoses conducted by South Korean specialists, Sun Jun-ho has been officially diagnosed with a medial collateral ligament injury in his right knee—a condition that is not considered particularly severe among athletes.

Sun Junhao's agency stated that they will soon administer stem-cell injections to treat Sun Junhao's injury. If all goes well, Sun Junhao is expected to make his comeback by the end of August.

Based on the current situation, Sun Junhao will be in a race against time. In September, the Korean team will continue their warm-up matches ahead of the World Cup. If Sun can make a comeback before then and even play for Shandong Taishan, he might once again catch the eye of Korea’s head coach Bento, keeping himself in contention for future call-ups. However, if Sun fails to appear for Shandong Taishan by that point, it could mean missing his chance to be evaluated altogether.

However, South Korean media reports indicate that although qualifying for the World Cup remains unlikely, Son Jun-ho hasn’t given up—neither have discussions with officials from the Korea Football Association or the national team staff. At 30 years old, Son is determined not to end up as just a spectator at the World Cup.
