CCTV reports: Stem cell therapy combined with other treatment methods saves the life of a 60-year-old patient!

2020-04-16

Sixty-year-old Sun Danping contracted COVID-19 just over two months ago. Her condition rapidly deteriorated, progressing to critical illness and requiring admission to the ICU—first on pure oxygen, then nearly needing ECMO support. Despite relentless efforts, her health showed no signs of improvement. Academician Wang Chen, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, along with Vice President Cao Bin, personally visited her bedside and worked closely with the medical team to devise a tailored treatment plan. They even explored innovative therapies such as convalescent plasma therapy and stem cell treatment. Thanks to the dedicated care and expert treatment provided by the entire medical staff at Beijing China-Japan Friendship Hospital—and particularly the Hainan-based medical team that had recently arrived in Wuhan to assist—Sun Danping was finally pulled back from the brink of death.

Today, Sun Danping’s IV stand now has an additional brown bag, inside which these stem cells can travel directly through the bloodstream to reach the affected area.

A few days ago, Sun Danping volunteered for a study exploring the use of stem cells to help COVID-19 patients recover from lung damage—a promising approach that is currently being tested as a key strategy to repair pulmonary injuries caused by the virus. Now, Sun Danping, who is undergoing stem cell therapy, is steadily improving and is just one step closer to going home.

We believe that, with the joint efforts of our expert team, stem cells will further unlock their medical potential and contribute even more to the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic!
